One of the main access roads is the Siglo XXI highway that connects Ixtapa Zihuatanejo to Morelia. This new highway has only been running for a little more than 2 years now, connecting the Cuitzeo - Patzcuaro beltway, providing a fast and reliable route from Mexico City without passing through Morelia, a 63 km trip that achieves a saving of 4 hours (on average).

A note for international travelers: this road connection creates enormous travel opportunities for your getaway as it reaches Morelia and returns from Ixtapa Zihuatanejo.

Federal Highway 200 connects Ixtapa Zihuatanejo to Acapulco, where the Autopista del Sol connects to Mexico City. The distance driving on this route between Mexico City and Ixtapa Zihuatanejo is 637 km/396 mi. An alternate and relatively faster route between Mexico City and Ixtapa Zihuatanejo is through Morelia (667 km/414 mi).

There are several first class and luxury bus services that connect these cities and Ixtapa Zihuatanejo with the whole country.
